We are recruiting a Homelessness PreventionOfficerto effectively deliver the business’s duty to prevent and relieve homelessness for households who approach the industry in housing needs:
Responsibility
To deal with a range of complex cases, which may be subject to judicial review and ombudsman enquiry and provide tenancy support for the families placed in private rented sector (PRS) accommodation to ensure the sustainability of such tenancies:
Qualification – Essential
· 3 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent to include Maths and English
· Degree qualified or equivalent
· Advanced user –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Social Media, MS Teams,
Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Comprehensive knowledge of all core legislation such as the Housing Act 1985, Housing
Act 1996 as amended by Homelessness Act 2002, the Homelessness Reduction Act
2017, housing needs issues, related legislation and case law
Good knowledge of homelessness prevention and the public and private sector options
available to people with housing needs
· Good knowledge of the issues affecting homelessness or households threatened with
homelessness and the range of policy initiatives to address these
· Good knowledge of housing options, opportunities, training & employment, wellbeing,
welfare benefits and debt
· Good working knowledge of immigration and related social welfare legislation and benefit
regulations
· Experience in working within a pressurised and high-profile environment providing a
quality service
· Experience of working in an advice setting
· Ability to manage a varied caseload, including landlord/tenant, mortgage arrears, welfare
rights and homelessness in the public and private sector
· Experience of working in a Housing Options Service
· Experience in training & employment opportunities available to economically inactive
households and best practices in tackling unemployment.
· Knowledge of welfare benefits & the financial options available to people seeking to enter
or return to work.
· Experience in attending court where necessary and appropriate to support tenants with a
defence against claims by their landlords.
· Ability to achieve targets and methodically respond to changing demands and priorities
· Ability to support effective working relationships and act as an ambassador and advocate
with external organisations
· Ability to create individual Personal Housing Plans (PHPs) for everyone in housing need
to sustain existing accommodation and find new housing, taking into account of their
circumstances and keeping the plan under review.
· Experience helping tenants prepare defence forms for section 21 and other relevant
courts
proceedings.
· Ability to help people to understand the rented housing market, keeping up-to-date with
Local Housing Allowance, benefit changes, and opportunities;
· Experience in managing and leading staff to achieve high performance and effective
operational delivery, including developing and improving staff capability

· Three Years of Reference
· A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role
